We look for studios exploring ceramics in their own way - through unusual forms, colors, textures, and everyday objects.

A handmade ceramic cup with a slightly unusual personality.
Made by the ceramic artist behind a small café and studio in the countryside around
Jingdezhen, this cup combines a dark, textured clay body with a blue glazed surface and simple blocks of red and yellow decoration.
There is nothing particularly traditional about it - and that is exactly what caught our attention.
The cup is entirely handmade, from the ceramic body to the surface decoration. It was fired in an electric kiln at the studio.
We visited the studio ourselves and documented the making process, including the clay and firing.
This is the kind of object that does not try to look like a traditional Jingdezhen tea cup.
It simply looks like itself.
