Hand-Carved White Ceramic Mug

A handmade white ceramic mug with a deeply textured surface.
The repeating relief pattern across the body is carved by hand, creating a tactile surface that changes as light moves across it.
The handle is also made by hand and carries the same attention to shape and detail.
Unlike the painted decoration of the first piece in this collection, this mug relies almost entirely on form and texture.
The piece is made from clay and finished with a simple white glaze before being fired in an electric kiln.

We found it through the same contemporary ceramic community around Jingdezhen, where makers experiment with forms that sit outside the city's more familiar traditional tea ware.
